Helping people and working hard has always been the focus for Hank Erwin. He is quick to welcome others, generous with his smiles and entertaining stories, and always willing to join together to work for a cause. Hank has a talent for putting people at ease and inspiring them to achieve their goals.
Hank was born and raised in Chicago and attended East Leyden High School in Franklin Park. He graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. His first job after college was working in Pittsburgh as an admissions counselor for Parsons College. A year and a half later, Hank returned to Illinois to serve as Director of Admissions for Kendall College in Evanston. Eventually, he worked as an admissions consultant, setting up systems in private colleges across the United States. When the challenge of working in admissions began to fade, Hank decided to follow a dream and buy a shrimp boat in Fort Myers, Florida. For a year and a half, he and a friend worked the boat until the price of fuel increased six-fold. They eventually sold the boat and Hank returned to Illinois where he started his career as an agent with Homesley Real Estate in Geneva.
In 1981, Hank joined RE/MAX as an agent and from 1994-99 he managed the RE/MAX Professionals East office in St. Charles. In 1999, Hank and Chris Hansen purchased RE/MAX Professionals East which they eventually merged with RE/MAX Excels in 2005. Hank partnered with Paulette Peiffer in 2017 and they continue to provide leadership for their team of dedicated agents at RE/MAX Excels. As Broker-Owner of RE/MAX Excels, Hank treats his entire team like family. His agents know that he is there for them, always available to answer questions and willing to support them in every way. Hank goes out of his way to make sure Excels agents feel like their office is not “just a place to work” but a family where they feel like part of a close-knit team.
Living in St. Charles for over forty years, Hank and his wife Sharon love the community and enjoy frequenting the outstanding restaurants in the area. In his free time, Hank loves to fish, trap shoot, read and travel. A yearly fishing trip to Red Lake, Ontario is one of his favorite excursions. He and Sharon have also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, the Florida Keys and Europe.
Hank is extremely involved in the community. He has served on the board of directors for the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce and is part of the LEAD$ Networking Group. He has also served on the board of directors for the Realtor Association of the Fox Valley. As a proud Lions Club Member, Lion Hank has served as the Tail Twister officer promoting good fellowship and enthusiasm at meetings. He also volunteers at the Lions pancake breakfasts and Swedish Days bratwurst booth, events that have helped the Lions donate over 1 million dollars to the community in the past five years. Hank is an active member of St. Patrick Parish in St. Charles where he regularly volunteers with the St. Vincent DePaul Food & Clothing collection, Donut Sundays, and the Saturday Men’s group. Hank also serves as Secretary of the St. Charles Hunting and Fishing Club.
As an agent, Hank’s philosophy is to always focus on the client with the goal of getting them exactly what they want. He has attained the Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE), Certified Relocation Professional (CRP) and Short Sales and Foreclosure Resource (SFR) designations. He has received the Pioneer Award for more than 25 years in the business and has been named Realtor of the Year by the Realtor Association of the Fox Valley. He has been named Broker-Owner of the Year twice: first, in 2005, with business partner Chris Hanson and most recently, in 2017, with business partner Paulette Peiffer.
